The Morgan County Commission, working for you by:
Making County Government More Open, Accessible and Accountable:
- Minutes of Commission meetings and other important information are now available on-line. (Go to www.morgancountywv.gov)
- Commission meetings are held during both daytime and evening hours so everyone, regardless of work schedule, has an opportunity to attend.
- Timely email updates from the Commission are available to any resident who signs up at www.morgancountywv.gov
- The Commission sets both long term and short term goals. These are published at www.morgancountywv.gov
- The Commission formed a citizen committee to create a zoning ordinance to be put on a future ballot.
Reducing the Tax Burden on County Residents:
- The lowest levy rate in ten years was passed by this Commission. By making the hard choices at budget time, the Commission has rolled back the tax rate.
- By switching insurance carriers, taxpayers will save $61,466. This is a repeat saving, which will apply every year.
- Morgan County now operates under a Purchasing Card agreement with a 1% return on purchases a $4,000 yearly savings.
- Refinanced soccer field loan changing interest rate from 8% to 4.75% and doubled up on payments saving the county $183,974.99
Other Important Achievements:
- Sale of the old War Memorial Hospital was completed and a new $30 million hospital is planned. This promises to bring better health care and more jobs to Morgan County.
- The Canine Restraint and Outdoor Enclosure Ordinance was enacted to assure pets are treated in a more humane manner.
- Morgan County now has a full-time Child Protective Worker to help reduce the rate of abuse and neglect of our children.
